I'm at wits end. My chickens free range across the entire yard. It's a good sized yard that easily fits two trampolines, four yard swings, two large trees, and still have room for a couple of pools if you wanted. Due to the chickens being free ranging I'm getting lots and lots of lovely chicken poo. Between their poo and my eight cats I'm running into a very, very serious fly problem. My area is also fairly damp due to the close proximity to the canyon.

Seeing the posts I'm clearly not the only one with a fly problem. Several of them are very old, though, and don't have an update. I need something safe for rabbits, cats, and the chickens that I can use to cover a large area. Does something like that exist? Something I don't have to spray daily? The flies are now getting into my house and it's frustrating.

Spraying the whole yard will kill beneficials too, a bad idea. Spray the coop with permethrin, keeping the cats out of it until dry.
Fly traps set far back from your house help, and the Spalding fly predators make a big difference, although it may be too late for them this summer.
It's been wetter and warmer than usual, wonderful weather for flies!

The only coop I have is in the garage where they go at night. They spend 99 percent of their time in the yard, and the flies aren't really in my garage. :(

I hadn't heard of Spalding fly predators before. I'll have to buy some and see if it helps.

It's been a horrid year for flies for us humans, great for the flies! I've been fighting them off all year. My cats exclusively use the yard as a litterbox (Which I hate, but what can you do) so I've always battled SOME flies. This year is beyond terrible, especially with the chickens. I feel like you can't go more than two feet without hitting flies and/or gnats. The chickens can't keep up with all the bugs! (Not for lack of trying)

Hey sorry your fighting them! I dont think the permethrin is neccessary at all with house type flies, just biting flies. With house flys i like to use a fly bait amd several bait stations. Available at most feed stores, its pretty yucky stuff but itll take down a population of flies in short order. If you could put an unused cage or milk crate (anything to keep the birds out of it) ontop of a container with a sprinkle of the bait that is a bait station. I have three in my yard its a constant battle but the bait keeps it under control.

Start a venus fly trap garden lol (I kid)
I've had several of those. I've killed them all! It's my professional talent.

Do you by chance know the name of it? I'm placing a large Amazon order tomorrow. I could toss it in if it's available online. If not I can always make a trip to my feed store. I'm fed up of gnats and flies.
