This hen came in the assorted egg layers order from Hoover Hatchery.
I have a couple of hens starting to lay and I'm almost positive this one could be who is laying a brown egg! But she's supposed to be laying colored eggs.
Any ideas?!

Well, brown is a color of eggs.. so she is laying colored eggs. ;)

She looks a bit like a production red type.. though I might expect to see yellow shanks if she were. Link and quote from their site with the breed possibilities listed..

https://www.hoovershatchery.com/assortedcoloredegglayers.html

"We have a full lineup of brown, blue, dark brown, green, and olive eggers in this assortment, giving you plenty of "eggscape" options! You may receive any of the following breeds in this assortment: Americana, Olive Egger, Prairie Bluebell Egger®, Sapphire Olive Egger™, Starlight Green Egger™, Midnight Majesty Marans®, French Black Copper Marans, or Cuckoo Marans."

That likely makes her an "egger" of sorts.. as she's clearly not Marans, cuckoo or fbc. Her feather color rules out Saphire OE and Midnight majesty. And unfortunately the way it's defined.. she could even be an "amerIcana".. though it has no standard of perfection I would never personally use that term to describe her.

In all seriousness.. all these Hybrids.. are verging on no different than barn yard crosses.. if they cannot be identified by their traits. Maybe someone else will still recognize her breed.. as something that was thrown in to complete the order but not listed in that variety??

All that being said.. congrats on your new layers! :celebrate

I love a little mystery and she is gorgeous! 🥰

ETA: it's possible she was supposed to be an olive egger.. since breeding OE is a little more complex than crossing blue and brown egg genes.. and hence why they include brown in their description.

Your reply made me chuckle inwardly at myself lol! She indeed is laying a colored egg! I was expecting it to be blue, green, etc. though.
Thank you for taking the time to reply!!
