anyone else have chickens who double up in a nesting box??

I'm not concerned, I just think it's so funny that I wondered if anyone else sees this commonly. My 6 hens have 2 nesting boxes and they use both. But sometimes I see two chickens sitting in the same box while the other one is empty! They seem completely happy. It's not even always the same box! It'll happen in either.

It's extra weird right now in this Texas summer heat. I'm like "Aren't you hot enough?" Why are you cuddling in a nesting box in this heat when you have another option??"

Yup. It happens sometimes. Chickens often have a favorite nest box and using that box is more important than being able to sit comfortably.

I have a hen that has a habit of doubling up with others. I lose an egg that way occasionally but if I catch her I slide her off the others back and to the side. It is quite amusing.

Yes, seen it. If the nest box is larger than they need, they seem quite comfortable.
