Anyone else love going to flea markets with animal sales?

I wasn't sure where to put this so I put it under the random. Anyway I have spent HOURS online looking for NZ rabbits in my area, I drove to a local flea market 15 minutes from me and didn't just find white NZ rabbits, I supposedly got a black and blue. I also supposedly got a boy and a girl (as long as they aren't both boys I'll be okay!).

I say supposedly because well, I got them at a flea market. However they are for meat and they were only $6 each!

I love flea markets though because there is something for everyone and various items. There is also just about every type of animal I could want!

They had rabbits, goats, ducks, chickens, roosters, quail, pigeons, hogs, horses, dogs, mice, gerbils, turkey, and cats! They didn't have the specific breed of duck I wanted (this time), but I am still thankful to find so much in one place!

What are your thoughts, share about your flea markets and finds!

Be VERY careful buying animals from fleamarkets. A lot of unscrupulous people are waiting for trusting/uninformed people to sell their old/sick/defective animals to.

Just remember quarantine is your friend when bringing home new animals. Quarantine tor at least 30 days. And quarantine means far enough from each other that they are not breathing the same air. Good luck!

These are my first rabbits and they both came from the same person so nothing to quarantine. I have heard ANYTIME you get new animals you want to quarantine them, not that the former owner was a bad person but they could have something neither they nor you knew about.

I love flea markets also, but I mostly go for the strange antiques! I don't like seeing dogs sold at flea markets though. That always makes me sad.

I don't like seeing dogs or cats sold period. I do like that the flea market allows like minded people to meet up and buy from each other. I looked all over online for a NZ rabbit near me, for hours! The ones I found came with a drive! I got two last weekend at the flea market and they are colors rather than the white NZ. Same with quail and pigeons (finding them there rather than online hours away).

We have an auction near me that is a very interesting place as well. Not for the faint of heart and animals purchased there definitely need quarantine, but they often have cool things! I have bought a few birds over the years there, but mostly went during the summer and picked up a bunch of baby rabbits to sell at fair. It was always so much fun. The last batch I bought though had so many issues that I decided not to do it again. It was a good thing I had bought them early in the summer and was able to treat them and found them good homes, but that was pretty disheartening after so any good experiences!

That was very responsible of you! Good for you!
I love it, there will be bad breeders anywhere but I think you can usually tell by talking to them. If they don't know anything about their animals then move on! If they don't know the breed, move on!

I like flea markets. There's an animal auction out in town and it's usually fun. I like to spend my saturday mornings there. Last Saturday I found two puppies in a cage labeled "FREE". Extremely sad. I took them both and found them homes right away. Didn't want them to become bait dogs. They were German shepherd and mastiff mixed, or at least that's my guess of their mix. I met a nice air force family who took in both, the little girl loved them. I think the dad said they're not sure about keeping both, but the base is safe to network rehoming dogs.
I never take my animals to the livestock auction because I don't want my birds going to bad homes.. but sometimes I find a little critter that I fall in love with there and I bring it home. I bought my first 7 chickens at a flea market :)

Wow, Kudos to you and the AF family! Dog fighting isn't big in my area luckily. People who do that are disgusting! There is one lady at the flea market who is super particular about who gets her animals, they are farm animals but she doesn't want to think of anyone eating them..
