Hello!

So i'm a proud mama to 2 two year old Toulouse geese - my goose Toofer, and Gander Nargle. This year, i decided to let Toofer and Nargle try to hatch. Well, unfortunately i found a very small hole in their cage and all the eggs were stolen - - except for one! On 4/15/2015, Nargle and Toofer were officially parents to a single adorable little gosling. I named it Lucky, and took Lucky away to hand raise her. Lucky was extremely lonely and constantly tried jumping out of her bin i have her in in my room to get to me. So yesterday, i went and got her a friend - a beautiful little Roman tufted goose born about the same time, and his name is Ducky. So Lucy & Ducky are about 3 days old.

So i only have experience with Toulouse geese, never owned a tufted. My Toulouse geese are sweet as can be (though my gander may need some reminding of whos boss sometimes), so i was wondering if Roman tufted geese are as social and have a generally good tempermant??

Welcome to BYC

I know we have members who have this breed but I don't so I looked it up and this is what I found, maybe it will help with your questions. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/621520/tufted-roman-geese
Would love to see pics of your new babies when you have time.

Roman tufted roman geese are about 10-12 lbs when full grown. Their temperment is quite calm and they are easily tamed. They arent loud geese either and they arent aggressive toward other geese, chickens or ducks, even during breeding season. In my opinion they rival the toulouse as far as temperment. I got my Tufteds as one & two year olds they were not hand raised or handled by people. Within just a few weeks they were following me around and eating from my hand. Unlike my toulouse pair who would hiss and run from me like i had grown two heads and had fangs, that i had hatched in the incubator and hand raised.
Tufted romans and toulouse make beautiful crosses though. If you plan to raise goslings from your little one when it is older you will love the color patterns.

I've got one roman tufted goose named Lacie. She is such a sweetheart. Totally laid back and loves to 'sneak up on me' (she's not subtle, I always know when she's coming) when I'm sitting in the yard to nibble at my boots or clothes. She likes to have her chest stroked. Very sweet bird. Currently she is broody, and tonight when I briefly candled the eggs I gave her to check all was well, she let me reach right under her and pull them out. I did raise her from a baby and she imprinted on me, which probably explains her tolerance of me around the nest. All in all, she has an excellent temperament.

Thanks for all the answers everyone! :)
Sorry i haven't had time to respond yet, raising two goslings, two full grown geese, going to school and starting a new job have kept me quite busy.
But as an update, Ducky, my Roman tufted, is coming along beautifully and her and Lucky are just the sweetest things! They love to sit on my lap in the sun and loved having their necks scratched. They get along great with the rest of the family, too! Nargle and Toofer totally adopted Ducky and love and look after her as they do Lucky, and the enjoy spending some time outside together, though they are in separate coupes right now. And they all went swimming together for the first time this weekend in their pool and oh gosh it was so darn cute! Though we do have a full sized pond i didn't want Lucky and Ducky in there quite yet. Here are my beauties, almost 4 weeks old. I am so in love.
