In my back yard I have an apricot, peach, and tangelo tree. I was reading a list of things not to feed. It says apricot "APRICOTS (Prunus spp.); seeds; plant is cyanogenetic". My question is, is it just the seed that is bad or are the actual apricots and leaves of the trees bad. The same is said about peach and cherries, all stone fruit. Also tomatoes, "TOMATO (Lycospersicon evculentum); vines. suckers: gastrointestinal tract affected by solanine glycoalkaloids." does this mean only the green parts not the tomates are bad for them. Also I have Mexican Primrose growing around my house. It says "PRIMROSE (Primula spp.); leaves cause dermatitis" so does that mean the flowers are ok. My last roosters LOVED these flowers it was his favorite treat. But he didn't like the leaves and stems. I didn't know there was a huge long list of things you couldn't feed a chicken when I had him.

I would LOVE some advise on this if anyone knows the answers.
Here is the website I am quoting from:

I'm new to chickens, but I read somewhere (I'd direct you if I could remember where--was it in FAQ?) that with a few exceptions, you can feed chickens the fruits and vegetables you'd be willing to eat, yourself. So, we eat the tomatoes, but not the vines; the apricots and cherries, but not the pits. I read of someone here giving tomatoes as a treat to her birds. I think the point of the cautions against the tomatoes etc. is to NOT THROW THE WHOLE VINE IN, like you would regular garden weedings; just the parts that you, personally would eat. Hm, apple seeds are probably out, too, though the fruit should be fine.

Hope I'm right? Hope this helps?

First, let me say this: If you eat it, it is generally okay for chickens.

Now, I know that doesn't really satisfy the worry bone, and its not terribly scientific.
But it is a great rule of thumb.

When it comes to stone fruit, like peaches and apricots, I don't believe your average chicken can get into much trouble.
The seed may contain some compunds that are to be wary of, but... can you eat the stones from these fruits, unaided?
You or I would likely bust a tooth trying to!

Same for chickens.. I have hard time seeing them getting in.

So if a few fallen fruit get in their way, I wouldn't get too upset.

Good question, though.
