Are quails loud?

I've spent a year or two raising chickens, all of them seemed to be pretty quiet and calm.
Of course, that was before we got Amber.
Amber is so loud and obnoxious, hates all of us but is fine with the other chickens so we keep her.
I was wondering if I could get a broody or two sitting on quail eggs, i'm pretty sure they're legal and all, even if they are males.
Are quails louder than chickens? The internet seems to show contrasting evidence.
Also, are there specific breeds that make less noise? We have agitated neighbors.

What kind of quail? Some species are louder than others. While they seem loud in close quarters, I do not think you'll have problems with neighbors. Many wild birds make as much noise. In an outside pen or outbuilding you should be fine; even in town.

Cortunix quail are not as loud as chickens and I doubt the average person would think anything about their crowing. A crowing quail sounds much different from a rooster. Just don't put them super close to a place where quiet is desired.

Quail eggs are much smaller than the average chicken egg; even bantam eggs. I have hatched cortunix under serama bantams. The broody hen would need to be the smallest you can get. Also, cortunix eggs are very different in appearance when compared to chicken eggs. I have found that serama hens don't readily accept them. I faked the chickens out by putting a couple white dummy eggs with the quail eggs. This proved effective.

male coturnix can be loud especially if you have several crowing outdoors......but they are not as recognizably loud as chickens or other poultry. my male ringneck is the best.....he crows a little in the morning but then relatively quiet where quail and chicken roos crow incessantly all hours of the day and night sometimes 🤣

My experience is that coturnix males can be pretty dang loud. Mine seem to talk around late evening mostly. However, they don't sound at all like a rooster crow more like a wild bird SO in theory the neighbors might not connect the loud noise to your place. Lol.

I depends on which species you want. I've had four different species, and I'd say the ones that made the loudest noise were the bobwhites and california quails. However, my japanese quails crow most frequently out of all of them. But the female japanese quails aren't really loud at all, where the female california, bobwhite and king quails have their own higher pitch crow.

Like others have said, if people aren't familiar with quail, they won't recognize a quail crow. However, quail (I have coturnix) can be rather loud and annoying. They are not loud like chickens, but one of my male quail, Aurelius, does crow a lot. He crows 4-6 times in a row at intermittent intervals throughout the evening and into the night, then starts again in the early morning. I can hear him through my bedroom window, which is perhaps 15 feet from the quail house.
I found a link to a video of coturnix quail crowing. It is not my video: Coturnix Quail Crowing
