So let me tell you the reason I am asking this very question... our neighbors were complaining about are RIR Rooster and how it was interrupting them during unsociable hours (evening, early morning) because of it loudness of his crow and to be quite frankly it did annoy me a little, so sadly we had to get rid of it :hit... but the thing is that I want to breed so I was wondering how loud quails are( especially the males) and if they are neighbor-friendly:idunno because I really want to breed poultry/birds. hope this makes sense and thanks to anyone that spends time to reply.:)

btw the neighbor that complained is 20-25m away from the coop

The only time my quail are noisy is when I have too many roos. If I only have one per pen, they don't crow much or at all. Their crow is also not as annoying as a chicken rooster's crow, in my opinion, at least.

Quail hens are very quiet, and what noise they do make is hardly distinguishable from wild bird calls. Their sounds are much less intrusive and annoying than say, a crow or a jay.

So you are saying that quails are neighbor-friendly?
Yes. That's why I chose to raise them over chickens. I live inside city limits, so noise is definitely a factor. Right now I have about five too many roos, and they're getting noisy, but they're going away this weekend.

This is what a coturnix quail rooster sounds like.

When I had a roo get aggressive, about 6 weeks, I separated him and he crowed non stop all day. I waited to 8 weeks to butcher, but now, I'll just go ahead and process. Don't breed the aggressive ones. This was the exception.

Haven't heard a crow all winter from the 3 boys.

I'm not going to process my bobwhite for several reasons.
First, he's a pet, I don't butcher my birds. I understand other people do it, I just don't.
Second, bobwhites are not easy to find here in Australia. I only have two and they're quite bonded.
Also, he was $50! That's an expensive meal!
