Arizona Chickens

They're okay in that temp range? What type of container do you use?
They seem to be "ok" in this temperature range, under the porch. They're in fish tanks on a wire shelf, with some stuff around the feet of the shelf to prevent ants. The shelf has styrofoam insulation around the tanks to keep the temps a bit more stable. I checked on them a couple days ago and they were still fine.

The fish tanks have oatmeal inside them.

During the warmer seasons you will have issues with ants if there's any ants in your area.

So they're in glass in a shaded area. Okay. I thought a glass aquarium outdoors might get too hot and bake them. Do you have any idea what the highest temp is under there?

Is there a screen mesh top on the tanks?

No, they don't seem to get too hot, they got moved to a different spot outside this year right next to the house. I don't know how hot it gets in there though.

Yes. It is a must, at least for me.

The feet of the shelf in empty yogurt containers full of water.

We don't have a porch but the coop is 2 1/2' off the ground and in the shade. I could store an aquarium under it. I like the yogurt cup ant barrier: simple and effective. Clever!

How soon after starting the colony were you able to harvest from it?
