At what age do chicks lose their cheep and sound like grown ups?

Hi I have 4 nearly 8 week old chicks and I was just wondering when they will lose their cheep. Sometimes I will hear a deeper chicken sound but when I move closer and listen carefully I just hear cheeps. Any help would be wonderful!

Depends on the breed. I’d say generally 9-12 weeks (thats just in my experience it might not be the same for you).

Agreed it starts around 10-12 weeks, but as you note close observation notices differences sooner. That's also when most roosters start crowing.

it varies. I had a clutch of two hatch in September, one stopped cheeping at least a month ago but the other one's STILL doing it, constantly!

We have three that mama hatched in the coop at the end of August and September. Ours is not cheeping. They are grunting now. One is not like the other two. How about a jr cock.

Still cheeping? But it must be nearly 12 weeks old or so! That is ages!

Depends on the breed, but yes. Some do it as young as 7 weeks, some as old as 6 months.
