I know this is been discussed but I want the latest opinion on the best Design on both Water and feed. I've looked at several "poultry" designs ie. barrels And 5 gallon buckets But as we know Ducks do a number on their food by turning it into a slurry or paste. Is there something That can be built to keep the food clean and dry? Is it an option to keep The water A safe distance away From the food so they can't dunk The water into the food but it's still close enough That they can drink while eating and not choke...

Please advise

What worked for me was keeping the water about 3 feet from the food and it seemed to make a great difference with the mess. I just recently got rid of my ducks so I couldn't continue on trying to find a better solution. It was tuff. They make such a mess. My next thought was to try and find a 5 gallon plastic barrel and cut in half to make some water troughs for them but couldn't find any for a good price. Good luck and please let us know if you figure it out. I plan on getting some more in the future.

We built a feeder into the wall

And have both hanging water buckets and sitting water buckets. With the chicken water drinker things on them (we call them chicken nipples)... That keeps the water contained and you don't have to claim it out as much.

For the food idk what you can really do there is a feeder with weighted lids on them that you can get. The chickens step in them and the lid lifts up.

Hoped that helped the food luck HAVEAGOODONE!!!

Our ducks water and food is probably a good 4ft away from each other and the mess is almost non-existent. I only have two ducks though. Their water stays considerably more clean, it seems like it gets mucky with mud more than food. Every morning my girls run out to find the water bowl (I move it around to try and reduce mud) and then I shake the food before I set it down and they happily run over, gobble some up, run over to the water, and repeat. I also had a problem with piles of poo by the water and food when they were closer but this set up spreads it over the area making it not so nasty.

I have a black rubber feed bowl thats for goats, i think, i use ot for their water bevause fancy co stantly likes to step.on the edge while eating and dumps all the water out. I have their food bowl atm in the original fancy cant upset this water bowl which is a lizards rock pool. I plan on putting up the small dual fence feeding bins up with the rubber bowl in between them. I have both bowls sitting in a med size dog crate bottom to keep the split water fairly contained, clean up is easier with paper towels since i only have the two atm.
