I’ve posted a few days ago about my Bantam, Delaware hen, who has had some respiratory problems lately. She hasn’t really gotten better, and she hasn’t really gotten worse… Some days it sounds a little better, and some days it doesn’t. It’s hard to explain. However, I was looking her over and felt her neck, thinking, maybe something else was going on, and it feels like she has an Adam’s apple, that’s the best way I can describe it. It’s mobile, it’s not some thing that stuck in her throat. So I did some research and I think maybe she has an iodine deficiency. , that’s the best way I can describe it. Good morning photos would help. Sure it is not her crop ?
I’m sure it’s not her crop. The gland is pea sized… and when i feel her neck it is movable, like how the adams apple feels when one swallows, or how a gland feels. Wouldn’t show on a picture. She has no symptoms of crop illness. I posted this video a few days ago thinking it was respiratory, maybe it is something else.… but here is the link so you can hear her breathing. I am going to town, to get some kind of iodine supplement… Even if it’s some kind of seaweed for now. Until I can get some thing more proper ordered.

Is her crop emptying overnight?
When was her last egg - any bloat or fluid in the abdomen?
Any lesions inside the beak?

Does she gurgle when you are not holding her?

Gurgling/breathing like that is often crop issues, respiratory disease and/or fluid in the abdomen (symptom Ascites).

You may be feeling the Thymus, Thyroid, etc. Look up chicken anatomy.

Hi… I’m honestly not sure about the last egg, a couple day or more.. She’s not a frequent layer. I don’t notice an odor or think it’s her crop. I’ve had a couple chickens over the years with sour crop… they didn’t make it. the other chickens don’t have that lump in their neck/throat when I compared…that’s why I think it might be avian goiter. Anyhow, just trying to get the best recommendations for an iodine supplement. I can’t get anything this weekend, but I did find some seaweed at Walmart, that is organic, that has iodine in it. Maybe that will help, I don’t know. It’s very sad. She’s my last bantam, and she’s super sweet and super tame. Thanks for your help! :)
