This was a barnyard mix of some eggs we hatched from the yard. We had a Barred Rock Hen, then we had a couple roosters in the yard, one was an EE and one was an Ayam Cemani. My guess is its an Ayam / Barred Rock mix but ive never seen one. I also think its a hen lol but at 6 months old its bigger than almost anything else in the yard including the pure Ayams that hatched in that hatch. You know how people joke that chickens look like dinosaurs when they are babies... She still has that look. I plan on keeping her around but she definitely beats up on her brothers. Thoughts on if she might be something else or even if shes not a she? Odd looking?

That's a rooster. What you made was a black sex linked cross. Anything barred is a male and anything non barred is a female. Even without that to go on it has male hackle and saddle feathers and sickle feathers in the tail.

I don't think that's from an AC. I have done several AC crosses and while they aren't totally fibro they still are at least a little bit. Usually at least the legs are black - they've been black in every cross I've ever done.

If I keep calling it a she maybe it will be LOL The Ayams just started crowing a bit recently so we should be able to see soon if this one starts crowing as well. The hen she came from was a full on Barred rock so I dont really know how the sex link works but I can do some research. All our chickens free range right now so everything is a guess but we have some really cool looking birds that have come out of it.

I just cant believe how much bigger this one is at 6 months than most of what else is out there. Thank you.

If the Cemani were the father, it would have a straight comb. The pea-ish comb shows it was probably the EE father. Plus, I'd also expect some fibro traits, but I don't have the hand's on experience Pyxis has there.

Basic black sex link info....if you have a barred hen, and a non-barred, non white rooster, you basically make sex linked chicks. The males inherit barring from the momma, the females do not. Barring shows up on a baby black chick as a white spot on the head. So, little chicks from that cross with a white head spot are male, and will feather out barred. Females from that cross have solid dark heads, and feather out black with some gold or silver leakage, depending on the father's breed/color.

It is. cockerel, despite the male feathering coming in, there is red leakage in the shoulders. As for the AC, I will leave that to the experienced.

What happens with an Ayam Cemani Hen and barred rock rooster?

That's just a regular cross, feather-color wise. No sex linking with the plumage color. All the chicks will inherit one copy of barring and will be single barred, males and females alike.

However, there is a type of sex linking that involves leg color that would happen in this cross, I believe. Females would hatch with dark color, and males with light color.
