I'm so thrilled with my DH's creation!!!!

I asked him to make me a small run for the baby chicks, so I could put them outside during the day w/out having to worry about the older chickens or the cats getting to them. He made this for me. It's perfect! The top half lifts completely up. In the middle, there's a separator. So, if you wanted to get them out, you could drop the separator when they are on the side that hinges up. It works like a charm - love it!!! Or I could use it for two separate cages too

Anyway, so glad to get my babies out during the day!!

He started it yesterday, and finished it today. AND, it cost us a whopping $7 for the wire, is all

He had the wood......

Do you think we should put a bottom on it or keep it open? I'm guessing they would like it better if it were open, but if we hit unlevel ground, they'd be safer in it???

Hmm....

I recommend no bottom. You'll be close and supervising, right, so you can see if they sneak out through a gap?

Otherwise, set a flower pot or something in front of any uneven ground gaps.

The whole idea is for them to be able to scratch in the soil, run around freely (without catching toes in wire and tripping).
