Baby chicks exposed to mites

My 4 day old baby silkie chicks are with there mother in a cage in the chicken coop. Once a week I do mite checks and 2 of my chickens came back positive.these 2 chickens hang out around the chicks cage and have slept on top of it. I dont know if the chicks or the mother have not checked but I dusted the birds that had mites. These are my questions

1. can the dusted chickens expose the babies to the medicine and causing then to die

2. Should I completely move there cage out of the chicken coop

3. What do I do if the chicks got mites

I use Sevin dust on nests with eggs, broody hens, chicks and everything else. I doubt your dust is stronger so don't worry; they should be fine. Keep the dust out of their water and food.

I always worry about Sevin. Some people swear by it some think it will straight out kill your birds. I used it once and the very next day I lost a Roo I really liked at the time- but in fairness I have no proof whatsoever it was the Sevin.

I prefer to use Gordon's Poultry Dust because I know I can douse everything without much worry. There are other poultry-specific dusts out there, but I guess I just like something that is designed for putting directly on chickens.

All that said, I know Poultry Dust says you can put it on chicks.

I have never lost a chicken to sevin. It is a very good dust I must found out from the pesrson above you can put it on chicks. The only thing I dont know is if it expires if left open?
