What is the bulb watt? How big is your tote? How far away is the lamp from the tote?
A 250w in a plastic tote is going to roast those chicks.Producer's Pride 250W Red Heat Bulbs, 120V, 2-Pack and it’s at least 2 1/2 big and the lamp is like 1 1/2 from the container

Do you have a thermometer you could put under the heat lamp currently and can you get a picture of your brooder setup? Is your tote a standard sized tote? I’m assuming you are brooding inside your house? I personally would never recommend a heat lamp inside a house. They are made for outdoor/barn use and usually put off too much heat for smaller brooder setup not to mention they are a very serious fire hazard. I use only a brooder plate if I have to brood in the house.what would you recommend
