Help! Last night I had 8 healthy 4 day old button quail chicks and woke up this morning to 1 dead and 3 lying on their sides breathing shallow.

Yesterday I added some rocks and twigs to their brooder, but also the outside temperature dropped last night and the brooder, though it is a bin, might have picked up a draft through the floor. Does this sound like temp issues or bacteria introduction? Is there anything I can do tonsave the ones that are struggling right now? It is worth noting that the 4 affected are the leasf fluffy. Ie they have bald patches so I think k it might be temp related.

Please help, I don't want to lose half my flock 🥺

What temperature do you have? What kind of bin?
It's a 102L heavy duty storage tote with a chicken wire lid currently covered with towels to keep the heat in and a heat lamp on top. The temperature is 98F now but was about 93 when I woke up this morning. I have now put a blanket under the bin because I think the draft might have come up through the floor. The bin has about 1" to 1-1/4" pine shavings on the bottom of it for them.

I would say they might have gotten chilled, let me ping an expert.

How old are the chicks? I would get rid of the rocks and twigs to start. Those shouldn't be added until they're at least 2-3 weeks old.

93 is low for newly hatched chicks, but should be fine if they're 5-7 days old.

Okay thank you so much. They are 5 days old now. I took out the rocks and sticks now. I hope the others will be okay.
