I used to have an account here, but I have since forgotten what my username + password were... so, new account it is! I was last on here around 2021, I think?
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Not new to chickens- got 7 chicks back in May, 2020, and haven't looked back
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 16 chickens- 15 hens and a roo- and a small batch of eggs in the incubator. First time hatching eggs without a broody!
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have a few production reds, some Marans crosses, an Ameraucana cross, three Legbar/Leghorn crosses (Legs squared), a brahma cross, and the rest are all either unknown or long forgotten... lots of mixes!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I like how curious they are! Also, getting the assortment of eggs around midday (A lot of the hens lay later in the day) because then I can see the variation- some lay blue, some tan, some dark and speckled, etc. In addition, they've just started free-ranging a few days ago, so it's great watching them explore.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like reading, drawing, playing piano, and researching various random topics.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm part of a family of four, and we have three cats, four goats and five cows.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Of course, I've known about it for a while- since about 2019, as that's when I started researching to get chickens. Just joined again because of the eggs in the incubator; I'd like to know as much as I can about that topic so I don't stress out, haha. They're due to hatch on the 15th!
