Bad side effects from wrapping angel wings?

Hi everyone, I have a 7 week old goose who has angel wings. He is my first goose and my boyfriend and I did not realize this was a disease and to wrap his wings earlier. We thought his developing flight feathers were just too heavy till they came in more. Since we discovered his problem is actually a disease, we researched and cut back significantly in his starter, and have given him a little bit of corn. He gets plenty of forage time all day so he eats plenty of plans too. But we decided to try and wrap his wings thinking they could be fixed. Our goose is very very friendly and although he didn't like his wings wrapped he didn't bite or fight back just cried a lot. He ripped it off after day one and today they got re-wrapped. But then when we went to check on him this afternoon he seemed a little off. Not as vocal, wobbly, slow, just not himself, wouldn't even eat grass or starter crumbles. Within a hour he was so wobbly and sick looking I just had to unwrap his wings every time you touched them he cried. Once I took the wrapping off he got so bad he laid on the ground in his home, he looked so bad and sick. After a bit of just laying, he started to get up and slowly eat corn and drink water. His steps were still wobbly and he was slow but then after walking around he seemed better. Now for the night he has been moved into a clean dry stall to avoid the rain and to keep an eye on him. He is more vocal again and seems better.
I have no idea what made him so sick. Could wrapping his wings have caused him so much pain and stress it made him go into shock? I can;t think of anything bad he could have eaten, and none of the ducks and chickens he lives with have ever been randomly sick like this. Any suggestions? Thanks.

That's really strange.

Could he have eaten something bad for him? He could have been stressed. I'm not sure though, I don't keep geese. I hope this helps: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/681396/managing-an-adult-goose-with-angel-wing

Best of luck!

I wonder if the wings were wrapped a little too tightly and hurt.

ETA: Angel wing won't hurt him. It's not really a disease, it's just a symptom of unbalanced nutrition.

I agree with Heritage. It sounds (based on your description play-by-play) that perhaps his wings were just wrapped a bit too tightly because he recovered so quickly after you unwrapped them.

It's like when your foot falls asleep (lack of circulation) and it's hard to walk on, almost painful until it wakes back up. Or how if you took and wrapped something too tightly around a finger or something, it takes redoing and loosening to feel better? If that makes any sense to you...Lol

I'm no expert, but at least that's what it sounds like given how you describe it. As for a better feed, are you able to get a waterfowl feed? It's formulated with the lowered protein geese need (too high of protein is what causes Angel Wing). I use Mazuri brand, it's only 14% protein (compared to the 18-20% in starter crumbles). But, from what I've read, lowering his protein and wrapping the wing should fix it up. Good luck to you!

I think you definitely wrapped it wrong or too tight. There's not a lot of information about angel wing like there is with other stuff. Find a good diagram or get a vet to do it.
