Please help!!
My 1y/o buff Orpington hen has a really bad wound on her butt. I’m not sure what happened. Her bum has been dirty for a bit and i haven’t been able to clean it because it’s been cold (plus I’m at the end of my pregnancy so everything is harder right now). But last night i noticed her bum wounded but i couldn’t bring her in until i got home from work because i had nothing set up and needed to go get a bucket to soak her in and some neosporum ointment. So when i got home i let her soak in warm epsom salt for about 5ish mins and then patted her wound clean and sprayed it with vetricyn spray and put the ointment on it. I put her in the rent a coop big red barn brooder inside which she’s having a melt down in because she’s so big and wants to be with her friends. It’s just stressful all around. But her wound is bad and i can’t let her out. Idk what caused this?
She is still laying eggs, eating and drinking normal, acting normal and pooping normal. Other than this bad wound which I’m not sure what caused it?? How do i treat this? How long do i keep her inside? How long will it take to heal?

I’m worried she will get depressed or hurt herself because she keeps trying to fly out but the brooder has a roof so she’s just flying up into and falling down. I don’t want her to cause another injury.

I need some serious guidance. Never dealt with this before these are my first chickens

First photo is tonight after her soak. Second photo is last night when i noticed it

I will try to tag somme people for you.

I would isolate her in a wire dog crate with food and water. Spray her bottom with wounds spray or saline and dry it. Then apply plain neosporin ointment twice a day to keep it from drying out. She has been pecked and this can cause her abdominal contents to come out if continued, and flystike with maggots could also happen. Keep her away from flies. This is why we need to keep any droppings off our hens. Flystrike can kill. Let us know if you see any sign of maggots. Make sure that she is eating and drinking.

I was thinking of putting a dog crate in the run for the day to let her still be in the flock around her friends but safe with her own food and water. I’m going to spray vetricyn again on her wound and put the ointment on it. I’m going to do that morning and night i feel like having her inside all day long isn’t going to be best for her. She’s a very big chicken who’s social so being alone i feel like isn’t the best. Especially because she is acting normal and doing her normal chicken things. Just wifh this wound. The run is covered and still wrapped for the winter and flies haven’t started yet it’s still too cold here

That sounds like the best plan, since flies are not a problem yet. She needs to stay part of the flock. I put a towel, plywood, or some cardboard on top, so the others don’t poop on the crate. Does she seem to have a swollen lower belly or is she normally low in the pecking order?

She’s actually like in the middle of the pecking order. I only have 5 chickens in this flock. I don’t think it’s swollen? It’s kinda scabbed up today. This is what it looks like after i sprayed and ointment and her pen in the run

It looks like one of the others has been feather picking her, and they kept on pecking her skin. Does she seem to be pecking herself?

I was watching the cameras a lot yesterday to keep an eye on her. It looks like she was at times. But I’m not sure if it’s because it’s hurt and bothering her. If i had to guess i think her bum started to get irritated so she started to peck at it and then the others noticed the rawness and made matters worse. This all happened within the last 2 days

Yes it is common for others to peck at red skin or wounds. It can escalate to the point of really getting bad, or even pecked to death if they see blood. Let us know how she bets along.
