HI all,
I couldn't find the link for the bad stuff, so can someone tell me if chickens can have chocolate chips? I made a recipe that didn't have the right amount of sugar and the cookies aren't too good. They have oats, brown sugar, flour, eggs, pecans and 1 cup mixed butterscotch and chocolate chips. I think they would love these cookies, but I'm afraid of the chocolate chips.
It made about 60 cookies.
Thanks a bunch!
Becky

I wouldn't give them chocolate. Chocolate has substances in it that are caffeine-like and this may not be good for them. It is often said to be very bad for dogs and cats.

Play it safe and just toss them out. I giggled a little at this--not to be mean or anything but it reminds me of my cooking disaster--didn't add enough flour, and realizing this halfway through baking, I opened the oven to find little piles of chocolate chips surrounded by a soupy mess! yuk...

I don't know about chickens, but I can tell with certainty that cows think they are really terrific!!

I'd let them have the cookies, personally, tho not regularly of course. Someone on here is bound to give me heck for it, but I allow my chickens to eat anything and everything, and have never lost one yet.

I love them for their wildness, wiliness and good nature in all situations. They live in dumps and compost heaps and jungles and slums, worldwide, happily. Bet they find a a chocolate chip occasionally, and still survive.

Love.

No idea if they can... but mine have eaten a whole pan of messed up chocolate cakes with a whole cup of cocoa powder in it... They are still alive and kicking. Then again, they also have picked though avacado peels, uncooked potato peels, eaten styrofoam, steal the salt laden cat food daily, and who knows what else.

Only thing I can say is that they have free access to regular rations and free range with no fences so don't have to eat things they don't want to and don't eat too much things that may be "bad" out of boredom.

The amount of chocolate needed to damage a chicken, dog, etc. would be waaaaay more than they would get from a couple of choc chip cookies. I'm with silkiechicken, mine have had choc cake and stuff lots of times and so have my dogs.

Yup..I agree...the little bit of chocolate they will consume with the cookies probably won't hurt them. My girls have eaten enough styrofoam to insulate a small room...and they are fine! (I have learned from this and it is no longer where they can find it!)

Woo-hoo--I was thinking that a bit of chocolate couldn't hurt! My chickies are going to love these!

Of course DBF thinks I goofed these on purpose so the chicksters could have them!

Thanks guys!
