Hey all,

My small flock is almost 11 months old--6 hens, all laying, and health wise, so far so good. I'm noticing, however, that Evy, my biggest girl (and most dominant, generally) has a bald spot on her back end. The visible skin looks fine, no injuries or signs of distress that I can see. Sometimes I see her dark fluff in the nesting boxes. Do chickens pull out their own feathers during egg laying? All her other feathers are thick and glossy, her eggs are big and strong, she seems otherwise healthy (as do the other 5). Is there something I should be doing, or adding to her feed?

Thanks,

Moe Jr

They tend to pull feathers when broody and this usually is normal. If you want to add a picture this will help us confirm if the bad spot is a cause for concern or not. However I’m not too worried right now about it
Thank you for this reassurance. :) I'll get a picture of her butt next time I'm out there!
