I have 16 baby chicks I incubated. This is my first time and 16 out of 17 hatched. I have no idea the breed or how to tell if they are male or female. If anyone knows what breed& gender please feel free to share! But I have one black one with a completely bald back! He/she behaves normal although a little skidding. I spend a couple hours with them a day and have not seen any of the others picking on her. I don’t know what to do, is she sick? Should I leave it alone. They will be 3 weeks old in 3 days

They look great!
No idea on mixed breeds as far as sexing. I have a mixed flock and get such a variety of chicks, that's what makes it so enjoyable for me. Being surprized what hatches.
I have also had chicks develop feathering (or lack of feathering) like yours.
Not to worry, as long as no one I'd picking him, he will catch up to the others shortly.
Congratulations and Good Luck!

Thank you! This gives me a sigh of relief, I am a teacher and the the students named him McNugget, they ask me everyday about his well being and I am hoping he pulls through! He was the last to hatch about two days late (no assistance from me I was about to clean out the incubator) meanwhile I hade 3 hatch 2-1 day early. We are on a mission to figure out their breeds/mixes

My flock is a mix going back 25 years. I change my rooster average every 5 or 6 years. I pick up eggs to hatch from road side stands (other people's mixed breeds) to add fresh blood onto the mix.
Last year I hatched some top knot, and feather feeted chicks. Not sure what throwback generation they came from! and I added in some naked neck chicks from the farm store for future diversity.
My eggs are all colors.
What fun!

Just my opinion, but I think it's just because that is a little roo. Sometimes they feather in a little slow. That red comb is a sure sign of a roo.
