Hi everyone, any thoughts on these two Barnevelders? They are around 7 weeks old. One has feathered up a bit more around the neck. They both seem to have visible wattles starting around their necks.

I'm sorry, don't let this discourage you from trying to raise chickens again! Maybe next time you should try to get a sex-linked crossbreed or an auto-sexing breed so you can ensure you get some females. There's red and black sex-links (called various names like Black Star, Gold Star, etc. by hatcheries) and some examples of auto-sexing breeds are Welsummers, Cream Legbars, and Bielefelders. Here's a post that talks about the auto-sexing breeds with some picture examples of the differences.. First time raising chickens.. sad one of them wasn’t a pullet!
I hatched 6 barnys about 5 weeks ago. There are (I’m pretty sure 4 Roos unfortunately) but there’s 1 Roo that is WAY smaller and even smaller than the 2 hens. I could be wrong sexing them but I was told the tail feathers early mean they’re pulletsHi, I have a barnevelder in my flock of 8. They are 7 weeks old and all doing well. But the barnevelder is half the size of some of the other chicks. She has no obvious issues. Are they typically slow growing?
I think both pulletsI have two that are 5ish week. Thoughts?
Depends on what other breeds that you have. I had a rooster flock consisting of Australorp, Barnevelder and Wyandotte cockerels, Barnevelder was the smallest of the 3 breeds. Barny was smaller than the SLW, although not by much.Hi, I have a barnevelder in my flock of 8. They are 7 weeks old and all doing well.
