Barnevelders egg color

I've heard that Barnevelders lay dark brown eggs. I've also heard they lay light brown eggs. Which is it really? Please answer asap I'm getting my second flock soon

They should lay dark brown eggs, but those can lighten toward the end of the laying season.

If you are buying from a breeder they should be able to answer that question for you. If you are buying from a hatchery all bets are off.

Oh I see. Yeah, I'm looking at buying from Tractor Supply. TS gets theirs from Hoover's I believe

General breed description is that Barnies lay dark eggs but each birds will be different. Some breeders will breed specifically for egg color ( only breed the darkest layers)

the mass hatcheries probably have less control on egg color and are more focused on quantity.

I own a Barnevelder pullet i’ll try to get a picture of her egg. It’s definitely not dark like my Marans.
