After it rained two weeks ago, I went to feed my little guys and gals only to discover a massive mound of fire ants at one end of the run. I have relocated my birds to their old hutch on the other side of the yard, and tried several different things to get rid of them. After 2 weeks, I got annoyed and just used a little Bayer Advanced dust on the mound, which overnight has resulted in a drastic change in the colonies activity. It's pretty much dead looking already.
My question is: this powder isn't supposed to be used around food or crops, how long should I wait before putting the birds back? Another couple of weeks? I can hose the area down once the ants seem to have gone, but I don't want to poison my birds.
