My hen’s beak looks like it’s chipping or peeling off somehow. Is that normal? She is a two year old lavender Orpington and perfectly healthy otherwise.

I had assumed it was just her beak growing, since all of her flockmates look fine. I will try the coconut oil today and see how it's looking. Thanks for replyingAlthough I haven't seen this on my chickens, one of my two macaw parrots beak was doing the same thing. I had her to a vet for another reason and vet said that can be a nutritional lacking, but since the other one doesn't have it, it's just her time to be regrowing her beak. They start at the base of it. I put coconut oil on it just so it looked better. It took a few weeks and hers looked normal again.
Thanks for replying.She may have gotten it caught in something, feeders, fencing, etc. and it may have been broken. If it feels stable, I would just leave it alone. If it does not, you can try to stabilize it with a tea bag and some superglue until it grows out some. You need to use gel type glue, not liquid, so that it doesn't run anywhere you don't want it.
