Bean Sprouts

Can we feed our chickens bean sprouts.
I would like to grow, lentils, pinto, soy beans stc.
Anyone know? thanx

I've sprouted wheat, oats, mung for 'em and they have loved it.

Thanks that sounds great did you ever do the larger beans like pintos, or even soy beans I have lots of those and they are not my favorite beans. I am doing lentil right now. They say that the larger ones have to be cooked 'cause they're toxic.

i think that's for people. think about it, if it were growing in the yard, the chicken would pull it up and eat it when they were out scratching. but then my philosophy is, chickens eat rocks. pretty much anything else has got to be okay.

I tried sprouts on my girls and they wouldnt' touch them, even after a few hours.

Thanks for you comments. I was always told that since chickens do not have stomachs but have gizzards. The gizzards are suppose to protect them from some of the poisons out there as yuo said they eat thisngs we donot feed them and not everthing is good for them and they survive.

It makes me nuts,,,,,,

I am going to sprout some beans for my girls!

I sprout seeds for the family do you do it the same way for beans?

My chickies go wild for bean sprouts-I can hardly get away with all of my fingers intact! Alfalfa sprouts are okay too. Another winner is fresh spinach. My chickens eat more salads than I do, lol.
On the other hand, they do not like celery or watermelon. I guess they're all different on likes and dislikes.

I started lentils yesterday, my favorite, you should try them. You can sprout any beans, lentils, black beans pintos, whatever you have and it is cheap protien.

It is exactly the same. but I use more because they are little piggies.

Mine love watermellon, they leave a thin skin behind.

I sprout for us, our parrot and our chickens. My understanding with parrots and sprouts, is that legumes/beans need to be fully sprouted for them. For other seeds, you can feed them when just the root tip is showing, as well as fully sprouting them. Overnight sprouting is popular with parrot owners, to prevent any possible mold problems.

If you don't fully sprout legumes/beans, then you should cook them, before feeding them.

This last week, I have been sprouting alfalfa and wheat.
