Hey there. I have ordered from "californiahatchery" and have had awful luck. So first off I order my 2 day old mallard ducklings on a sunday night, find out the next day they won't be shipping because they were out of stock and didn't tell me, so I waited 10 more days to get my new ducks, open the box and they were both dead, then I waited another week and today I was supposed to receive my ducks, but the post office called and said they were dead and smelled so bad they had to throw them away. I feel awful because 4 helpless ducks were killed. Anyway, of this story, I just need hatcheries that are closer to Naperville Illinois than california and would like them to be shipped. If they hatchery is close enough I could pick them up I would. Indiana, Wisconsin etc. hatcheries would be fine. I am looking at Metzers but that is also in California. What are the best close to me? Thanks!

I don't know how close mccleansboro IL is to naperville, but chickenscratch hatchery is there and they have a nice place. I think the prices were a litle high, but you get to see them and pick out your chicks.
They were real nice folks too. There is another thread on this site about their hatchery too.

Mccleansboro is pretty far, probably about 6 hours.

Maybe you could look for a breeder instead of a hatchery?

I seem to remember the tri county stockdale on black road in Joliet selling ducklings in the spring, maybe they can help you now?

Hanover, Illinois calls itself the "Mallard Duck Capital of the World" and they have a large mallard duck hatchery. I purchased hatching eggs from them in the past. They were great ducks (that followed our dog around the yard like she was their mama). I can't find a website for them, but here is an article mentioning the company as well as their contact information. Good luck!
