Looking to expand my flock come spring and not set on a specific variety yet. Just looking to see what my options are for getting poults for the best value. Any suggestions or sources you’d recommend? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I know porters is considered one of the best by many turkey people. But they’re a little more expensive than hatcheries but you get what you pay for. As I understand he has very high quality stock. I guess it depends on your intent (is meat, pet, exhibition) . However, I know they’re not advertising/ selling to the general public this year. I was told it’s a private sale/ case by case basis sort of thing. I’d look up porters rare turkeys and message Kevin. He’s great!

It depends on how many, heritage or broad breasted and your location. Almost all online sites require a minimum order of 15 poults for shipping. If that is more than you are interested in, there are several options. One is to get someone else to split an order with you, immediately sell the extras upon arrival or buy local.

I have pre-ordered and bought through a local feed store, bought online from Efowl.com, Porter's Rare Heritage Turkeys and McMurrays. I have split an order and have bought the minimum orders multiple times and sold the extras upon arrival and even grown some out to make sure I kept the ones I wanted before selling the ones that were not selected to keep.

Back in the days that the USPS took pride in their work, I even ordered hatching eggs from Strombergs. They hatched very well. Today I highly recommend buying day old poults rather than hatching eggs.

Good luck.
