best way to stun a turkey before slaughter

Hello, any suggestions on how to humanely stun and then kill a turkey? I slaughtered last week by hanging and cutting the jugular, even with 2 deep cuts it took 2 -3 minutes to bleed out each bird.
I have heard of CO2 stunning, shooting, and a blow to the head. Any DIY solutions to the above, especially the CO2, would be appreciated.

I always cut the throat just below the jaw off to the side of the neck on turkeys and chickens. Did they flop for 2-3 minunets or just bleed that long? I have never had them flop for more than 10 seconds or so.

Hello ColbyNTX, I guess what troubles me is they are concious while they are bleeding, and that seems to take a few minutes. I slaughtered the last of our Toms today and cut very deep gashes to try to bleed them quickly, they seem to be conciuous for more time than I am comfortable with. Then they seem to go unconcious, with a great deal of wing flapping (I have a large size killing cone on order). I'm aware that the flapping happens after they are 'dead'. I'd just like them to go unconcious much faster.

We all want it to be over as fast and painless as possible. I use a very sharp bencmade knife and it usually severs the spinal cord. I hang them by 1 foot and grab the head firm and put the blade right under their jaw and a quick slash. It almost, and sometimes does, takes the head off.

Branch pruners! Hang bird by feet, put neck between jaws of pruners, snap closed.

I went to walmart and got one of those c02 powered pellet gun pistols for quick dispatches. you could pop them in the back if the head and then lop it off.

I'm sorry everyone, but I am too much of a softy. The thought of any type of pain or fear, hurts me. I use a 20 gage to the back of the head. I want instant brain death.
