We have black and white ducks in our neighborhood, and I just assumed they were mallards--a different type of mallard--they are the same size as mallards, but they are black and white, both males and females. There is no rhyme or reason to their coloring, but they are mostly black with white sporatically around their bodies. Any guesses? A t least give me place to start my internet search??

They definitely aren't Anconas.....I want those really bad. These are more black than white. They have more white than the Black Swedish. I wish I knew how to upload pics on here...I would take a pic and that would make it so much easier! I have gone thru over 80 pages of this forum and never thought to really look for this breed in the pics. May have to start over!!!

Nope, they aren't Muscovy......There is a mama duck that just hatched seven babies....I want to go snag a couple of them...one is adorable....she or he has a yellow neck, with a black stripe running down the back and black dots all over the back of her neck, too. I want her! Her mom is gorgeous, too.

I am thinking they may be call ducks. In fact, I have a mallard mom, a Roeun female, and what I thought was a really small mallard female. Can call ducks look like female mallards. I just thought she was smaller than the rest. I googled call ducks, and saw some that could almost be this black and white mama, but not sure.

New to ducks

I just got some baby ducks that are MAGPIES.. from my research.. they are black and white.

The chances of finding call ducks running around living wild in your neighborhood are about zero.

If the ducks belong to someone, you can not "snag" a duckling. That would be livestock rustling.

Black and white could be Anconas or mis-marked Magpies. I've seen mis-marked black Swedish with a lot of white on them and a freckled splotchy bib.

If they are white with black flecks, they might be splash, or there is a double dilute of the regular mallard color that is white with oddly placed black feathers.

If they are abandoned ducks with no owner, the ducklings are almost certain to be crosses.

Realistically, it's not going to work to ask people to identify ducks they can't see.

If they are the same size as a mallard then I would say they are a call cross. Or calls that had no set breeding program as they will eventually get bigger!
