hello everyone, this is my first post. I live in Cabot Arkansas and have five Rhode Island red hands and a rooster that were put into our coop by a neighbor and we ended up somehow being responsible for taking care of them and I have fallen in love with them. I'm trying to do everything I can to keep these guys healthy, but today one of my hands has a really pale comb and these black spots on her nostrils! It doesn't look like dirt and I'm not sure what it could be can anybody give me some insight into this??? Please help. I didn't plan to get chickens but now that I have them, I love them! I'm not sure what to do!

Hi there :frow I'm not seeing anything wrong in this pic...could you post a few others?
Welcome to BYC!
We are glad you joined our flock.
This video should help you find your way around.

Hi @kcarrigan7 :frow Welcome To BYC

Can you post some clearer photos?

I don't see anything of concern about the nostrils.
Are these hens laying eggs? Combs can change color slightly throughout the day...
If she is not laying, then her comb would be a bit paler or if she is beginning to molt the comb would lose color.

Hey, thank you all for responding! This seems like an awesome forum and I sincerely appreciate your help. There's every possibility that I am overreacting because it's my animal, and one of them is now my really good chicken friends will follow me around, eat out of my hand.
