Hey everyone. Need help again, as a couple of my girls have begun developing these black spots on their combs, one of them now has her eye swollen shut. I thought they were potentially peck marks as they went through a little phase of establishing order. But they seem to have gotten worse or be getting worse. We don’t have frost bite as it’s not cold enough here yet, could be flies as we deff have a lot of those. their appetites are normal, an few have had watery poos and dirty bums which we’ve been cleaning and monitoring but no other signs of Illness that we can identify. Any advice or insight would greatly appreciated. Please no nasty comments, we take really good care of them but we are new to having chickens and we are learning as we go. Thank you everyone

Any lesions inside the beak?

I do agree, it looks like Dry form of Fowl Pox.

I'd watch this one around the eye. There are bubbles forming. It may be a good idea to take a needless syringe and gently rinse the eye with saline, then apply a dot of Terramycin in the eye. Try not to disturb the scabs.
For the combs, you can apply dots of Iodine to the scabs to help dry them up.

If you find lesions inside the beak, then separate her out and sanitize the flock's water to help reduce spread. Instructions on water sanitizing is in this link https://the-chicken-chick.com/fowl-pox-prevention-treatmen/

Looks like dry fowl pox. My flock went through this once. Resolved on it's own after a month or so. You can dab clear iodine on the spots to help dry them up (I wouldn't put iodine on any too close to the eyes).
So I’ve read that it’s bad if it’s in their eyes. Then what am i intended to do about it since one of them is having issues with it swelling her eye shut?

Thank you. Haven’t noticed it inside the mouth. I’ll check though

To reiterate regarding the fowl pox near the eye: Put a small dab of Neosporin in her eye 2 or 3 times a day, continue as needed until back to normal. Be patient, it will heal in time, it's not going away over night. It will prevent bacterial infection especially if she scratches her eye due to the irritation the scab causes.

Also apply a very small amount of iodine on the scab near the eye, it will help shrink the scab in time. Do NOT get any iodine in the hens eye! You can apply iodine to the other scabs as well. Iodine kills the virus that causes fowl pox and the scabs shrink in time.

@dawg53 explains what to do beautifully! It does take a long time to pass, though. And your other birds will also get it as they've all been exposed. If it is just the spots on their combs (dry fowl pox) and there are no lesions in their mouths (wet fowl pox), it should pass after a month or two, and everyone will be fine. Just treat that eye as @dawg53 and @azygous say, and keep close watch for any other symptoms.
