Black Star?

I got this hen a few days ago. I was told she was most likely a black star, but I haven't seen one that looks like this or lays eggs this big and dark before. I was wondering if maybe she's a maran cross?

I believe she may have been from McMurray hatchery based on the other chickens I got with her if that helps.

Thanks so much!

I had to look up Black Stars as I had no idea what she is... So many DIFFERENT names for the same chicken, LOL.

I know them as Sex Links - a cross between either a RIR or NH roo & a barred Plymouth Rock Hen.

Robert's farm raises a cross of RIR roosters over Dominique hens & calls them Black Stars...

Some have red coloring at neck & some don't. I found one picture of a hen similar to yours, don't remember which site... No egg pics were as dark/cherry looking as yours.

I wonder if yours is a FBCM mix roo over a barred hen. That might make for darker, rather than lighter eggs.

Either way, you have a Barn Yard Mix, a Sex Link or a Black Star hen. Cute hen, WONDERFUL eggs...

I wondered if maybe RIR too over Cuckoo Maran hen or something was possible. McMurray says they have two lines for Black Stars but I couldn't find any information on what breeds they use. No matter what she is, I plan to borrow my parents' Maran rooster and hatch some eggs next spring!
