Hello,

I have a 4 year old New Hampshire Red. About 2 months ago she got a very enlarged and squishy crop. Assumed it was sour crop. Titled and drained a couple of times. Gave her coconut oil for several days and she seemed to recover just fine. Now, the same problem is back, but a bit different.

She has the distended crop, but when I drain it's mostly water not vomit-like material like before. She also has her butt up in the air. She had some pooh around her vent so I dipped her in the sink and cleared all that, but it wasn't really blocking anything and the vent looks normal.

She tends to stay off by herself now, and is almost sleeping on her feet. Eyes totally closed and just standing still.
Ideas?

Sounds like she's not doing well.

I'd address the crop Symptom according to the article below. She likely has something else going on too.
When was her last egg? If she should have laid an egg and hasn't, then give her extra Calcium to see if that helps. She may be trying to expel lash material or an egg.

I'm not sure when her last egg was. She's in with the rest of the flock and they lay in a rollaway box at their leisure.
I'm trying to decide if it's time to cull or not. I don't see this ending well and I don't want her to suffer.

I'm sorry she's not doing well.

All you can do is access her and try treating symptoms, keep her hydrated and eating. It can be hard to make the call sometimes.
