Does anyone know what’s going on with my girl? She didn’t come in last night (we moved her in ourselves) and was bloody this morning. It only seems to be her feet, both of them. They’re colder to the touch and don’t seem to be actively bleeding. Is it frostbite? We cleaned a bit with rubbing alcohol and put on some polysporn (without antibiotics). She’s currently in our garage (around 5-10C). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I don’t know what that is. I don’t think it is frostbite. Could she have been picked on before roost time? It may be a scrape or the feathers on the feet were pulled out. I would clean off the blood and separate overnight in a wire crate with food and water. The red color should fade so that others won’t peck at the legs.

She has been separated and is eating and drinking fine. We think she just had some feathers pulled out, but one foot is a little more swollen on the pad. We’ll keep an eye on her for now.

I agree, it does look like she had some feathers pulled.

I'd just keep watch on it for a few days. If you are putting ointment on the foot, then it would be good to do that too.
