I purchased eight chickens on Saturday - 2 of which are Andalusians, 1 splash & 1 blue. They are beautiful and so cute. I'll post pictures of them. I just want to discuss the breed. I believe they are considered rare, right? Anybody else with Andalusians? How are they as adults?

Daisy is very brave and sweet. When I reach my hand in the brooder, the rest run away but not Daisy, she pushes the others out of the way to get to my hand and see if I have any treats. She is by far my favorite of my 8. Dixie is very flighty. She flies all over the place. My feeder doesn't have a lid and she liked to fly up there to roost, but would poop in the food, so I put a bowl in the hole (right side up) so that she could still roost but when she pooped it would just go into the bowl.

Both chicks are purebred. I know Daisy isn't show-able because she's splash, but what about Dixie? Also, exactly how rare are these birds? I might consider breeding Daisy to another blue and try to better the breed if she grows up to be a good bird.

Note: The chicks were originally purchased from my pet chicken but I bought them from a girl who bought twice as many as she actually wanted by accident.

Your chicks are beautiful. Andalusians are on my 'wish list' of breeds I would like to have some day. All I know about them so far is just what I've read so I'm looking forward to hearing about other's experience is with them.

It sounds like Dixie is true to the breed in terms of flightiness, lol.

Hope you enjoy them and share more photos as they grow (the pictures you've shared are great!).

When I forest decided to get chicks, I wanted EE and wyandottes, but the eggs never hatched so I had to find more. I finally found a lady with chicks, although they weren't the breeds I really wanted. After getting these girls, I am SO SO SO glad I got these instead of the wyandottes. They are both bery friendly and the funniest to watch. I took them out into the grass yesterday and they were immediately curious and very brave...they walked right up to my cat and climbed on her back and she was laying down. It was hilarious! Love my Andalusians for their personality - it's just a plus they are so beautiful.

Thanks for starting this thread! Love your beautiful chicks and appreciate hearing about their personality. I am just about to get my second batch of chicks ever. I have 2 Blue Andalusians, with others, on order for June from Meyer, who reportedly supplies My Pet Chicken, so I have been wanting to see some BAs from this source. Would love to see more pictures as they grow.

I got interested in BAs primarily looking for a winter layer. After reading about their personality, I'm even more intrigued. I have a horse with the Andalusian horse breed in his heritage, and he's a character. Very alert, sensitive to people, smart, reactive, but a total goofball . . . a bit like this chicken?

I've heard variable reports on their laying and understand there are differences between genetic lines from breeders vs. hatcheries, etc. Look forward to hearing more about them.

@allpeepedout , I hope you'll share photos of your upcoming BA chicks.

Your horses personality is like a mix of the two chicks I have! I'll definitely be keeping pics updated. I've decided to take weekly pictures so every Saturday I'll post their weekly pictures :)

Looking forward to seeing the weekly pix! Mine don't come until mid-June, and I'm SOOO tempted to add one more to the order... gotta have a chance at a black, blue, and splash, right? I'll add photos of mine when they get here. Looking forward to hearing about more antics. Does sound like the horse, like a cross between Cary Grant and Don Knots.

If I were you, I'd add another to the order! I wish I would have gotten more - they are awesome. I love my BA! Can't wait to see the babies when they come. I never saw mine as day olds!

It will be fun watching them grow!

My order from Meyer came this week, all live and healthy. I now have two Blue Andalusians, I think one blue and one splash. The blue has lots of black on her back, so I'm not sure. These are not the best pix, but it's hard to get these gals to pose!

The blue has been the most interactive out of all the new babies, along with a Dominique. She'll jump into my lap regularly. The splash is one of the more fearful. I haven't done much forced holding, just trying to hang out with them, put hands in cage and invite them only my lap as I have time. As I posted on another thread showing pix of Meyer chicks, they were very grumpy about being put on the couch for photos. They show you how they feel, for sure! I think I'll really enjoy them.

Blue?
