I need a little help with this one.I have a 7 day old chick whom became weak & wobbly on Friday. I scooped her up & realized she had not been eating likely all day while I was at work, she was a little cold so I got her warmed up, electrolytes into her & she perked up... a little.. enough to peck at some starter, but couldn't stand. The next morning another chick was presenting the same way... I scooped that one up & called the breeder.. she said they were eating & drinking when I gave em to you I have no ideas... ****! I started googling & reading... they are pretesting much like Cocci?? They are on a medicated feed that has Amprolium in it, so I don't know how? bedding is clean as is food & water I don't use a light I use a brooder board from Brinsea. I went & got some Solfamethazine to start treating them but the 1 was to weak & died, 1 is still struggling, she has troubles keeping things down & her croup keeps filling with air. I have to manually, slowly, gently work her croup down for her. Her poops are a greenish mess.. a little slimy. she can sometimes hold her head up & than a few min later she cant... its just weird.
** Question How much water with electrolytes & how often? She is to weak for any foods right now, she will likely aspirate on it if I try to force it into her. I can only get a drop or 2 into her at a time I don't want to give her to much I need guidance on how much how often. mush up egg yolk is almost to much for her right now too it has to be water thin & I cant see that having any nutritional value what can I give her. I have read to stop with the vitamins so I have.
Can anybody lend me a word of advise that may help me save her or help with her recovery? should I try some honey water?
The only thing she is getting is Electrolytes & Meds
I live in Canada so I don't have the same things you guys in the US do.
I Know they all can not be saved... this is not failure to thrive.. this is an illness.

They can get cocci even when on medicated starter, and whether in the US or Canada. Cocci are in the soil, and more prevalent in damp areas. Medicated starter only gives them a small dose of amprolium. It is intended to help them build a natural immunity to cocci, not to treat an overwhelming number of them. In the US I would recommend Corid, which is the same medication but a much higher dose. Sorry, I don't know whether you can get amprolium similar to Corid there, or whether the dose would be the same.

This is a copy of one of Dawg53's posts:

The dosage for the Corid 9.6% liquid solution is 9.5cc/ml per gallon of water for 5 days. Make a new mixture daily. Do not add ACV nor anything else to the mixture. After the 5th day, dose your birds with valbazen orally undiluted, use a syringe without a needle. Dose orally 1/2cc/ml, repeat again in 10 days.

above post is exactly right. sounds like cocci. after treatment with corid what you can do to help is bring small amounts of soil into brooder and this helps them develop a natural resistance to the cocci that's in your soil. little at a time. it's introducing them slowly and in small amounts that will bring on a resistance to your cocci present in your soil. after you have treated and they are healed you can help them develop that resistance slowly. hope this is helpful. also after treatment you might want to consider giving a powered Probotic in there drinking water to replenish the good gut bacteria that was lost during the treatment.. I like the product Probios. you can order it online by looking up " Probios for chickens". it's excellent for the whole flock. it can even help prevent disease by establishing good bacteria in the gut the good can then fight off the bad much easier! dose is only 1/4 tsp. per gallon of water. so one jar lasts a very long time. I believe the cost is approximately 12.00$ for a jar. very reasonable. it's excellent to use after treatments of medication ! sometimes the medication will destroy good bacteria also so after treatment I Highly recommend using a probotic like probios. hope this is helpful and good luck. I wish you the best!

In Canada - You may have better luck asking for Amprolium - the active ingredient in Corrid. My suppliers on Vancouver island never heard of corrid but they have Ampol.

she passed... sucks!!

none of the others show sighns of illness thank goodness!
