Bobcat nabbed our new Leghorn rooster, here's what bobcats sound like

We lost a young free-range rooster a few days back. Only feathers left, no blood, so it was a fast nab and getaway. We suspect a bobcat, because of recent local sightings and no traces on fences of coyote fur. It had to come over the back fence because our 3 heelers were out front.

We've already lost ladies to hawks, which have a different M.O. Coons don't operate in broad daylight, so we're pretty sure it was a bobcat. Wife now carries an AR9 when out back. She's gone into protective mama mode.

I was surprised to hear these sounds that bobcats make, some I would have thought were a bird. FYI.

Wow ! bobcat? we don't have them in Ohio

yes, we do! I recently had an odd cat experience...could not see what was making the noise, but unlikely to be a regular cat due to type and volume of cat noise I was hearing. I wondered if we have bobcats or cougars here, and yes, we do...some info on ODNR website. So, still don’t know what it was that I heard, but maybe it was a bobcat or cougar. It was in the cornfield that borders my yard, and there are woods on either side (north and south) of this farm field.

So sorry for your loss. Maybe because we live in Florida and we have bobcats. One killed 14 of my birds once. It made the mistake of coming back for more. I have mostly seen them on camera here roaming at night. Probably because of our warmer climate. Most predators here prowl at night. I never see anything on my game cameras during the day but I do at night.

That is a useful map and impressive range.
One possible other daytime predator culprit I didn't mention would be a large hawk. We don't see many large ones out here. But if it were big enough, there would be no blood and nothing left but feathers. That's a possibility.

I was born in Michigan. I remember as a kid seeing bobcats now and them. I have spent most of my life in Florida and we have them here too.
