I recently had a few eggs with very dark orange yolks. Today I boiled some eggs and there were a few that were yellow with a dark orange ring around the outer edge of the yolks. Are these still edible? It just looks weird. Thanks.
I posted the same question a few month ago and never got an answer. It happened during a VERY cold spell we had and went away after that.I still don't know what may have caused this
I was giving them a lot of extras, more food, treats, boiled rice etc.The eggs were fine and so are the hens.I live in an area that doesn't see cold weather often and it has not happened since.
This happened back in January and it stayed well below freezing for almost a week.VERY unusual for Texas.I don't think the beautiful area where you live would ever get that cold
The eggs returned to normal after it warmed up.Have you changed anything about their food, treats?Maybe they are getting less greens? Are you feeding cooked rice?I never found out what the problem was but it did resolve it's self.My eggs were safe to eat(the dogs and I are still alive)I just did not sell or give them away.
Nothing changed about their diet. Just the usual scraps, layer and some scratch. The only change is that a wild roo has been coming around for about the past month. Could that be the cause? Other than that everythings normal. Weathers the same and the hens seem fine. Its funny how no one has an answer. Could it be that no one else has experienced this?
I think that if this has happened to two different flocks living so far apart,it had to happen to someone else at some time.Orange ring does not sound like a fertile egg to me,so IMO the roo has nothing to do with it.If it were a disease, surely the hens would show other signs or would be goners by now.My hens are doing well. What brand layer do you feed?I feed Dumor from TSC.Something in their diet would be my only explanation.
I feed them layer and scratch grain both from Dels feed and farm supply. Did these eggs look normal raw? My eggs look normal when I try them but i'll try and boil more to see. Hopefully someone has an answer. Thanks for all your help.
I've had a few undercooked boiled eggs look like that. Sometimes the yolk will be a little funny in the middle, around the outside, or half will be done and half wont. Did you maybe try to boil too many at a time?? That's usually when I see it.......when I boil lots of eggs all in the same pot???
In my case, when the raw egg was cracked open, the yolk looked dark orange. When I poked the yolk open, the inside was a normal yellow with what looked like a dark orange skin around the outside of the yolk. When I boiled some of the eggs, the yolk had a very distinctive orange ring around a yellow inside.
