I wanted to get some advice on a good ointment for chickens with an open wound. Chicken at bottom of pecking order is being bullied and her tail feathers along with her leg feathers are being pulled out, stem and all
Leaving open wound. She is a Langshan, thus feathers on legs and toes and she so sweet! I have the bullies separated in another coop. So sad, I want all my girls to get along.

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

Sorry you are having trouble. Have you identified the cause of the bullying? Space, nutrition, boredom? What is the age of your birds and feed (protein %), including supplements and treats? How many birds to how much space? Free range?

Blu Kote is a product that disinfects and HIDES the red which attracts more pecking. It is said to work well, though I have no personal experience.

If you use neosporin use the one without pain killer in it.

Sometimes the kids just refuse to get along. It stinks but it is real.

I have used pick no more on my polish when her head dress was brutally pulled by meanies.

If your bullies won't behave, I suggest looking online for what is called "pinless Peepers". Use them on the bullies for a few weeks and see if their behavior changes. With those things on the bullies your picked on hen will have a break.

When you reintroduce the bullies, do so one at a time with about three or four days in between each one coming in. A new pecking order seems to be in order, but by only putting one bird in at a time, with several days in between, your bottom of the order bird won't be picked on relentlessly by so many at once.

I like this advice when there are more than one constant bully. And would take it a step farther and make the separation for the bully be out of sight .
