Brahma of unknown specific type. Age : picture of baby chick was from May 3rd when I got it. It has been almost 6 weeks since then. Do we know if it is a pullet or cockerel and what type of Brahma it is? Right now she is Esther but I don’t know if I need to call her Ian instead. I know it is not a Light Brahma as I have three pullets of that type. Jolene is one of the Light Brahmas.

She has a single comb, so I agree not pure brahma. Unfortunately , those dark red patches on the wings typically indicate male.

For 6 weeks old though a cockerel would have a lot more red in the comb which this chick is devoid of. Maybe not super bright red but there should be some redness. Since there is none though I would be very surprised if this chick turns out to be a cockerel instead of a pullet.

I really hope she is a pullet. She is probably closer to 7 or 8 weeks old based on size comparison to the light Brahmas. But it is so hard to tell. She has been super slow to feather in too. We have a super sweet Roo that we would adopt that is a Wyandotte from a friend. All the silkies kinda hide around her. Like she protects them from the chaos. Soon they will have a super bougie coop. Hopefully by Sunday night.

Yeah, at that age it should be pretty evident if they are a cockerel cause their combs and wattles will not only be bigger than the rest but also red. Pullets will have some comb growth but it won't be as large nor will it be nearly as red.

Could you get a clear picture of the comb? Can’t tell if it’s a single comb or a more developed pea.

Looks like a blue partridge Brahma to me, but can’t be pure if that is indeed a single comb. He’s definitely a cockerel

looking closely, i see pink in the comb and it is kind of large for the age. Sometimes cockerels show a little later than others, just like how some pullets develop faster. I had a chick that still had a small comb by 8 weeks, but by 10 weeks had red all over so he was a cockerel. it's hard to tell sometimes
