My black copper Marans was attacked by a raccoon 3 weeks ago. We have brought her back by tube feeding Exact and electrolytes, but she seems unable to eat on her own. Her injuries seem healed, except for one by her ear, which seems to protrude. We are thinking brain damage is the reason she can’t eat but are wondering if there is a chance she could still improve. Is there something to give her to bring down the remaining swelling?

She is otherwise now behaving like an alert, sweet chicken. Two days ago she finally TRIED to eat, but she doesn’t seem to have the depth perception to actually get the pellets in her mouth. I’ve still not seen her touch water on her own. After trying to peck at pellets on the floor, she also does this weird backwards walk until she bumps onto something and that brings her out of it. It’s almost like a backward walking seizure. I would love some advice from folks with experience.

Yes, when I bandaged her ear she fell over and I removed it. She does move around well, even flew onto a table. She occasionally loses her balance after stretching her wings.
