Hey guys! I just got my first solo chickens (family has had some for years) and I have some questions. Due to the egg shortage, I had to get breeds I'm not familiar with. Tractor Supply told me these were Brahmas and Saphire Skys. I know the yellows are Brahmas but does anyone know if the gray ones are Saphire Skys? Also, do you know how old these look? They told me 3 weeks but they seem small for that age.

I'm pretty sure only one of the Brahmas is a hen. But not 100%

Cute! Ive never heard of Sapphire Sky. Must be another hatchery designer mix.

I definitely don't think they're 3 weeks. I'd guess under a week since they're mainly fuzz instead of feathered.

I'm not familiar with the breeds but recently raised two batches of chicks . . .based on wing development and down I'd guess closer to two weeks old . . I'd expect more feathering on the chest at 3 weeks . . . . that's just my opinion and I'm still learning so maybe someone else will chime in . . . they are cute though.

Edit: Is it possible they said 3 days, and you misunderstood them, or heard wrong?

I hadn't heard of them before either. They're some kind of hybrid of the barred rock i think. And at least I'm not crazy. They seemed way too little to be 3 weeks.

I was expecting them to say days! The guy said all their chicks come at around 2.5 weeks and he thought he'd had them for around a week. But my brother-in-law was given a guinnea by the same store last year when buying a new flock so I'm not sure how much they actually know.

Maybe they're getting younger chicks than they're use to because of the shortage and they're assuming they're still 2.5 weeks when they arrive . . .

I think the guy is confused, and the breed is probably Sapphire Gems. The yellow are Light Brahmas

Smart! I didn't think about that. But it makes total sense. I wanted a completely different flock but decided to settle due to the shortage.
