Hello, I wondered if anyone could help me with what breed my chicks are please?

I got the eggs as a random mix, so zero clues as to what they should be - could be a mix of anything! All just over 3 weeks now.

Thank you!

1 - Orange and white
2 - White with little bits of black
3 - Black, white and a little bit of red coming through. Feathery feet
4 - Solid white
5 - black and white (I suspect this one is a he)

I played this game last year:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/breeds-genders.1587932/

It was a wild ride and they turned out some very different colours from when they were chicks.

I'll have a guess, it was fun for me at the time and I got new hatchlings this week too so more guesses for me soon :D

1 - Orange and white - It's likely going to end up a brown bird, maybe an ISA brown or Wheaten Marans mix
2 - White with little bits of black - Some sort of splash leghorn.
3 - Black, white and a little bit of red coming through. Feathery feet - A black copper marans
4 - Solid white - a White leghorn
5 - black and white - a Barred Rock

Thank you so much. Why is it so fun to try and guess them?! Haha! I have looked up so many different breeds based on what they looked like when they first hatched, but all my guesses have been thrown wide open now their feathers are coming!

It really is :D I love having a guess :D

I was the same with my flock the first time, all manner of colours from a mixed flock. I love trying to work out what they will end up looking like and if they are boys or girls 🤣

Where did you get them?

Agreed on 3, likely a French black copper marans.

5 Is most definitely NOT a barred rock. All barred birds have a light head spot as a chick. I'm thinking it's either a jersey giant (eye color: australorps have black eyes) or one of the hybrids that have become so popular.

Leghorns have yellow legs, so 4 isn't one there either. White skin makes me think orpington (tail wrong, I think), or a light sussex (I thought those babies hatched grey and yellow, though)

Having played this game myself, and the which birds are the parents of this chick game, sometimes you can't figure it out until they lay eggs. Good luck!

Ah yeah, I didn't think about the white spot. These are mixes though right? So they could turn out any ol' way :D

Thanks so much for your guesses too! Gave me some different breeds to research.

5. I think you’re right, I had ruled out barred rock because she was all black on her head. Didn’t think of an Australorp!

Maybe the black ones are just some kind of black sex links. Which would be nice as neither had white spots on their heads so could both be girls. Just the black comb

2. I think is an Austra White, mix of leghorn / Australorp (came out of a blue egg too)

I think the all white one (4) is a white Plymouth Rock.

But ask me again later today and I’ll have probably changed my mind again 🤣

Next up for guessing is who is a roo and who is a pullet! 😁
