Hi,
One of my chickens got attacked by a dog today, and now her tail looks hunched down instead of up. I treated the small wound with saline spay, vetiercyn, and neo sporin. But it's the shape of her tail that's concerning me. Can someone let me know if a chicken breaks thier tail bone can they still live healthy long life? She doesn't seem to be in pain, as you can see in the picture she jumped up onto my desk, and kept moving around so much we put her back outside

Where was the injury? What makes you think it's a broken tail bones, due to her tail being down? IF it is a broken tail bone, and no other injury, IMO she should be fine. Keep eye on her,
Yea I think that due to the tail being turned downward, and when I checked it. It seems to have kind of a bulge in that area where as none of the other chickens do. Would she be showing pain symptoms if it was broken? The injury was on the left side of the vent area

Chickens are notorious for hiding pain, can't answer you there.
@dawg53 Could you help with pain med/dose? Thank you in advance

How bad was the injury by the vent? Keep a close eye that the others don't peck at it. Check daily to make sure flies don't lay eggs. You may want to apply Triple Antibiotic or Neosporin without the pain relief to help the healing, although Vetrycin is my go to for healing wounds.

Thank you so much, the wound was less than the size of a dime, it doesn't seem to go very deep. I put neosporin on it and am going to redo it again this evening. So far the chickens have left her alone. I just wish there was a way to tell if she's in any pain, she's still eating, drinking, and foraging for bugs so hopefully ita not too bad

A tail isn't necessary hardware as much as it would be on a flying bird, she'll be fine.
Thank God! 💜 thank you for sharing that, I've been so worried. I've already been dealing with crd in the flock and one nearly died, I've been one stressed chicken mom for the last 2 weeks lol.
