backstory on pearls: she is a 4-year-old splash cochin, and she has currently been broody for around 2 weeks (this is her second time being broody this year and i am assuming the "cause" for these crop issues).
so 2 days ago i noticed that my chicken pearls was having some issue with her crop. upon picking her up on sunday morning, i noticed her crop felt a little bigger than normal. (i say a little because i have had a chicken in the past with severe sour crop and it is not even close to that level). anyway, at this point i started to pay more attention to her crop and i had noticed briefly that her breath smelled weird, but i only smelled it once and never again. after this, i did some research and read a lot of threads on here about similar issues and i decided to keep her away from water for 12 hours and food for 24 hours over the night and day in an attempt to empty her crop. her crop got significantly smaller but there was still a little bit of substance in there that just wouldnt budge. after the fast, i fed her a boiled egg and a little plain greek yogurt along with some of her pellets mixed with water which she ate happily. however, the next day she woke up with the same stubborn amount stuck in her crop. what i have gathered is that she is passing the food she eats presently, and she poops normally. but i am becoming increasingly concerned with the fact that her crop will not empty all the way. leading me to believe that an infection could arise.
this issue is significantly harder to deal with given her broodiness as it can be hard to differentiate her symptoms and behavior, let alone trying to treat her. today, (tuesday) the same substance is still inside her sack but i have been making sure she stays hydrated and feeding her wet pellets when needed. one last note as i am unsure if this is related, but i have occasionally noticed a bubble appearing in her eye due to excess fluid in her eyes. typically she just blinks and it goes away as this has only happened a few times (inserted picture). overall, i am at a loss and an extremely worried mother!
if anyone has any suggestions or tips, please let me know!
further information: there are no vets that will treat chickens in our area, i have previously called over 20 local vets with zero luck. however, i consider pearls my daughter and i love her very dearly so if this is something that's gonna progress to threaten her life or quality of life then i am willing to drive to another state if needed. FURTHERMORE: i can insert any pictures or information that might be needed to diagnose her.
