Hi all, my hen was sitting on 11 eggs I see one hatched today. I hope the rest hatch soon enough!!!
Question, I will be feeding the chicks medicated feed. Is it okay for the hen to eat that as well?
She is broody in the big coop but I am planning to move them to a smaller coop where they will be with the mom until a little older to be outside, and while they eat the medicated feed. I only have 2 other hens but one of them is very dominant. Here is a picture of my coop. the Hen is in the middle nest box but can't see in the picture. It is big but there is the trays with poop so I dont' know if it would be good to keep the chicks there. I have one of those smaller portable coops where I can move them to. It has an enclosed run. The big coop does not have enclosure as it has an automated door for the chickens to free range.

you are welcome to visit my facebook or website where I have some pictures of my coop my husband built at diyhobbyfarm.com it is just a personal page I been trying to keep for fun.

They don't necessarily need medicated feed. It is only for coccidia. As long as you keep the bedding bone dry and feeders at least half full, they likely won't get coccidiosis.
You don't have to separate them from the flock either. A mother hen with chicks is a fierce foe. IMO, it is best to raise them with the flock they will eventually need to be introduced to. The hen will protect them till the chicks are accepted as flock members. Introducing much later when she isn't protecting them will further complicate introduction.

Oh I already purchased :( In the past I never used medicated but since the coop has the poop that is collected from the other chickens and also I have these wild ducks that keep coming into my property eating the chicken feed, water and even have caught them going into the coop to lay eggs. I can't get rid of!!!! I don't know from what exactly they can get it but wanted to be cautious this time.
