Bugs in ducks feathers

Hello,

So, please nobody take offense at this, but I'm a duck and goose Hunter. I don't raise ducks, I prefer to hunt them. I apologize if I offend anybody.

Today, I went out hunting and got a duck, but I noticed something interesting that has me concerned on if it's safe to eat or not. I was hoping somebody can help me figure it out.



There were lots of these bugs in the feathers. What are they? Is it safe to eat the duck after removing these bugs?

Any help will be appreciated.

That looks like lice to me. They only suck blood so should be ok but wait for another response for positive id

Well, here's hoping somebody that knows can help me out! I'm looking forward to trying to make duck noodle soup.

If the bugs are in the feathers I can't imagine how that would hurt the meat.

You know what? You got a point there. I don't think it damaged the meat.

I just finished making the duck noodle soup. It's delicious!

They live on the feather shafts.
